Bike Parking & Routes

Bike Parking

SF State offers over 800 designated bicycle parking spaces throughout campus in bike racks. Please refer to the bicycle parking map for bike parking locations.

The Bike Barn has closed since August 2017 due to lack of usage.  The Parking and Transportation Department in collaboration with Sustainability will continue to provide new bike programs.  Please keep checking for updates.  Thank you to the bike community for using the bike barn over the years.

Bike Routes

On-Campus:

Bicycle riding is allowed in designated routes as shown in the campus bike map.

**E-scooters are currently allowed on the bike route as part of a pilot program. They must be parked at bike racks**

Described below are sample bicycle routes to campus to get you started biking to campus. Another important resource is talking to your fellow cyclists about the routes they take. Ask other SF State riders how they get to school; you’ll find a route that is right for your comfort and speed.

From Downtown:

Head southwest on Market Street then make a left onto Valencia Street. Take the Valencia Street bike lane south, turn right onto the Tiffany Street bike boulevard, turn right onto 29th Street, then a quick left onto San Jose Avenue. Follow the San Jose Avenue bike lane until the Arlington/Wilder/Bosworth exit (follow bike lane). Follow Wilder to Diamond, turn left onto Diamond, then right onto Monterey. Follow Monterey straight onto Circular Ave. From Circular Ave., turn right on Hearst, then left on Gennessee. From Gennessee, make a right onto Judson, then a left onto Phelan, then a right onto Ocean. From Ocean, make a left onto Harold or Lee, then a right onto Holloway. Google directions from downtown.

From the Inner Sunset:

Take 7th Ave. bike lane, which turns into Laguna Honda. Veer right onto Dewey Blvd. then take a left onto Claremont towards Portola. Make a right on Portola, then a left onto Junipero Serra. Follow the Junipero Serra frontage road to Holloway; make a right and pedal into campus. Google directions from Inner Sunset.

Mid-Sunset:

Take 20th Ave. south into Stern Grove Park. After crossing Stern Grove Park and Sloat Ave, continue south following 20th St through the Stonestown Galleria parking lot. Take a right on Buckingham, then a left onto the campus bike route. Google direction from mid-Sunset.

From the Outer Sunset:

Take 34th Ave. south until you arrive at Ocean Ave. Make a left onto Ocean heading east until you arrive at Middlefield. Make a right onto Middlefield, and cross Lake Merced Blvd. When you arrive at the bike path, go left and continue on the path as it wraps around the lake. Turn left onto Font, which will lead you into campus. Google directions from outer-Sunset.

From Daly City BART:

From Daly City BART, exit the main fare gates, walk to your right, then take another right as you leave the building. Walk up the sidewalk against the direction of traffic, then ride to where the street (St. Charles Avenue) veers to the left (in front of you is the gate to a parking lot). Take St. Charles straight over the freeway overcrossing and through the intersection with Alemany Boulevard. As St. Charles turns to the left, there is a pedestrian walkway on the right. Go down the pedestrian walkway, cross Brotherhood Way at the crosswalk, and walk up the pedestrian walkway on the other side of Brotherhood Way. You will be at the bottom of a hill in a cul-de-sac on St. Charles. Ride up the hill, and at the top, make a very slight left onto 19th Avenue. Make a right onto Beverly Street. Proceed on Beverly Street until you reach Holloway Avenue. Turn left on Holloway Avenue, and continue downhill on Holloway until you reach campus. Google directions from Daly City BART

From Balboa Park BART:

Exit the Balboa Park BART station to the south onto Geneva Avenue. Take Geneva Avenue west past Lick Wilmerding High School to Howth Street and turn left onto Howth-- you can use the crosswalk to Geneva. Take Howth south one block and turn right onto Niagara Avenue. Turn right on Edgar Place, then left on Holloway Avenue. Holloway jogs to the left at Ashton Ave, but stay on Holloway and pedal downhill all the way to campus. Google directions from Balboa Park BART.
