Safewalk Protocols
-
All escorts are conducted on foot unless mobility limitations require vehicle transport.
-
Escorts are subject to availability and may require a brief wait during peak hours.
We encourage members of the campus community to utilize this service as a proactive measure to enhance personal safety. Traveling in groups or with a SafeWalk significantly reduces the likelihood of being targeted by criminal activity.

SafeWalk Service: SafeWalks are provided by trained, uniformed Student Community Service Partners, Community Service Specialists, or University Police Officers. These escorts are available to ensure your safety while walking on campus, especially during evening or nighttime hours.

Mobility Transport Service: Mobility transports are typically provided by Student Community Service Partners and Community Service Specialists. In limited circumstances, University Police Officers may assist with mobility transport when other personnel are unavailable.
Both services are coordinated by the University Police Department to promote safety, accessibility, and inclusion across campus.
All SafeWalk and mobility transport services are provided by uniformed personnel to ensure safety, accountability, and visibility. You may request that your escort or transport be provided specifically by a Student Community Service Partner or a Community Service Specialist, rather than a Police Officer. However, this option is only available when those staff members are on duty.
Please note that University Police Officers are available 24/7, year-round, and may be assigned to fulfill your request if other personnel are unavailable.

Mobility Transport Service
Mobility transports are provided primarily using on-campus open-air carts, which are designed to assist individuals with limited mobility. These carts operate only on University property and are not permitted on public roadways due to legal restrictions. In certain cases, mobility transport may be supplemented by University Police Department personnel and vehicles when appropriate.
Both services are tailored to meet your safety and accessibility needs while navigating campus. If you have specific concerns or accommodation requests, please contact the University Police Department or the Parking & Transportation Office.
No—these services are not taxi or personal errand services. SafeWalk and mobility transport are strictly intended to support safe and accessible travel within campus boundaries, including:
-
On-campus academic buildings
-
Campus parking lots
-
Attached residential properties
-
Off-campus university-affiliated residential properties
Department of Campus Safety (DCS) personnel will not transport individuals to off-campus locations such as malls, stores, or other personal destinations, nor will they wait while errands are conducted.
Due to high demand, it’s important that these services are used appropriately to ensure timely support for those who genuinely need assistance. Misuse may result in longer wait times and reduced availability for others.
SafeWalk and mobility transport services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Wait times may vary depending on several factors, including:
-
The number of active service requests
-
The distance of each transport or escort
-
The availability of personnel
Services are primarily staffed by Student Community Service Partners. When they are not on duty, Community Service Specialists and University Police Officers may be assigned to fulfill requests.
If you require a reasonable accommodation for pre-scheduled rides due to a disability or mobility limitation, please contact the Parking & Transportation Office.
These services are available to:
-
Students
-
Faculty and staff
-
Campus visitors

-
Emergency responses requiring immediate attention
-
Vehicle or cart malfunctions
